General Motors Transmission Recall Lawsuits
General Motors has been issuing safety recalls left and right this year, ever since it was whipped under the bus for its handling of an ignition switch defect that has been linked to at least 13 deaths. Among the recent GM recalls are two separate recalls that involve problems with transmissions.
Our national injury lawyers have been following the 2014 GM recalls and are available to investigate potential GM transmission recall lawsuits on behalf of individuals and families that have suffered as a result of a faulty transmission. GM Recalls Over 1 Million Vehicles for Faulty Transmission
One of the most recent GM recalls involves more than 1 million vehicles with four-speed automatic transmissions. The recall includes:
- 2004-2008 Chevrolet Malibu
- 2005-2008 Pontiac G6
The vehicles were recalled due to a problem with the shift cable that may prevent the driver from shifting into a separate gear, putting the car in park or removing the key from the ignition. So far, GM reported 18 accidents and one injury involving the faulty gear shift.
GM Recalls Nearly 60,000 Cars for Similar Problem
Earlier in May, GM recalled 59,628 Saturn Aura mid-sized cars due to a problem with the automatic transmission shifters that was causing the gear shift to display the wrong gear. Vehicles with the faulty transmission could roll away if drivers park on a hill and think their vehicles are in 'park.'
According to reports, the defective automatic transmission shift lever has been linked to 28 accidents and four injuries in the last 7 years. Lawsuits allege the automaker failed to warn consumers about the problem when it first discovered it; which, according to reports, was at least 2 years ago.
